Court sends Councilor Mahesh Sharma to 6-day police custody in extortion case
Several shots were fired late last night outside Bollywood actor Disha Patani’s house in Civil Lines, Bareilly. The attack, which occurred around 4:30 AM, has been claimed by the Goldy Brar group, a notorious criminal organization. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident, which saw two rounds of aerial firing, but the motive behind it has raised serious concerns among authorities and the public.
The firing is reportedly a response to an alleged insult to revered Hindu saints, Premanand Maharaj and Aniruddhacharya Maharaj. A social media post, written in Hindi, surfaced shortly after the incident, claiming responsibility and directly naming two men, Virendra Charan and Mahendra Saran. The post explicitly stated that the firing was a "trailer" and warned that any further disrespect towards Hindu deities or saints would not be tolerated.
The social media message, which has been widely circulated, issued a direct threat to the entire film industry, stating, "This message is not just for her, but also for all the artists of the film industry and those associated with them. Whoever in the future commits such an insulting act against our religion and saints should be ready to face the consequences." The authenticity of the post is currently being verified by the police, who are treating the threat with the utmost seriousness.
The controversy reportedly stems from a video made by Disha Patani’s younger sister, Khushboo Patani. The video was a reaction to remarks made by spiritual leader Aniruddhacharya Maharaj regarding women and live-in relationships. While Khushboo later clarified that her comments were taken out of context and were not directed at Premanand Maharaj, the video appears to have triggered a severe and violent backlash. Her father, Jagdish Patani, has filed a formal complaint with the police.
Police authorities in Bareilly have confirmed that an investigation is underway. The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) has formed five special teams, including units from the Special Operations Group (SOG), to probe the case. Their primary objective is to identify and apprehend the individuals involved in the firing and verify the authenticity of the social media post and the group's claim of responsibility.
