In the latest rankings released by Glassdoor for the top 100 companies to work in 2024, tech giants Google and Microsoft experienced notable declines, with Google dropping from No. 8 to No. 26, and Microsoft falling from No. 13 to No. 18. Notably, companies like Meta, Zillow, and Zoom did not appear on the list for the second consecutive year. The rankings, based on employee feedback, encompass large companies in the UK and US with 1,000 or more workers, and the changes in position highlight shifts in employee satisfaction within the tech industry.
The Glassdoor survey unveiled that layoffs, extended working hours, and poor management contributed to the decline in rankings for companies such as Google, Meta, Zoom, and Zillow. The tech sector, witnessing over 260,000 layoffs in the previous year and already facing more than 2,000 layoffs in the first nine days of 2024, reflects global employee dissatisfaction.
Companies that featured on the list last year, including Gainsight and Box, dropped off this year, reducing the number of tech companies from 41 to 31. However, in a positive turn, Apple secured the 39th position on the list after being absent last year, attributed to comparatively fewer layoffs. The top 20 companies on Glassdoor's 2024 ranking include Bain & Company, NVIDIA, ServiceNow, and others, with Bain & Company claiming the top spot.
