On Tuesday, the Advocate General told a division bench of Calcutta High Court Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava and Justice Rajarshi Bhardwaj on behalf of the state that the CAG report on the basis of which the case against the Center has been registered is now for consideration in the Assembly. He said that the report was presented in the assembly on March 17 last year. Advocate General Soumendranath Mukherjee requested the Chief Justice of the Division Bench of the High Court that since the matter is now in the Legislative Assembly for consideration, it is not appropriate to hear the matter at present.
He also claimed that he has 'utilisation certificates' of all project funds. He also said that all that will be presented on time. The court has fixed the date of April 13 for the hearing of the case. Prior to this the State should inform the High Court in writing about the statement of the day.
BJP's Rajya Sabha MP and senior lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani wrote on Twitter, ''There are signs of another big scam in West Bengal. In a case filed in the Calcutta High Court, it has been alleged that the state government has embezzled about Rs 2.3 lakh crore. The matter is based on the CAG report. I am looking forward to what comes in the end." The Calcutta High Court earlier ordered the state's finance secretary to be involved in the matter. The PIL filed has cited the CAG report and claimed that the funds sent by the Center to various projects in the state are not matching. CBI inquiry has been requested in the High Court.
