"Governor assured to look into it": fact-finding committee submits interim report on WB violence

A six-member fact-finding committee has submitted its interim report to West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose, following the violence that occurred during the Ram Navami procession. The committee was created to investigate the matter and restore normalcy in the affected areas.

Former Chief Justice of the Patna High Court and member of the fact-finding team, Narasimha Reddy, addressed the press conference after submitting the report. He stated that they were not allowed to reach the site of the violence, and reiterated that the objective of the committee was to ensure that normalcy was restored in the affected areas.

Reddy questioned why the West Bengal Police stopped the committee members from visiting the violence-affected areas, if the situation was normal. He emphasized that their effort was to restore normalcy and urged the state to allow them access to the affected areas.

The committee's interim report revealed that the riots during the Ram Navami processions were "pre-planned, well-planned, and provoked". However, the credibility of the committee was questioned by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

In response to this, Reddy highlighted that anyone could visit violence-affected areas as a human being, and questioned why the state government was afraid if they had nothing to hide.

The West Bengal government has assured that they will look into the committee's interim report.
