Sister Nivedita University, located in Kolkata, organized its first convocation ceremony to confer honorary doctorate degrees to six renowned personalities of the country for their significant contributions in their respective fields.
Among the recipients were industrialist Ratan Tata, sarod player Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Bandhan Bank MD Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, researcher novelist Mani Shankar Mukherjee, Indian Statistical Institute Director Sanghmitra Bandopadhyay, and journalist-social activist Martin Question. The ceremony was presided over by Governor CV Anand Bose and Satyam Roy Choudhary, Chancellor of the University. The event took place at the World Bangla Convention Centre.
While all recipients were awarded the degrees by Governor CV Anand Bose, Ratan Tata couldn't attend due to personal reasons. Governor Bose praised the University and said that it has established itself as an institution capable of imparting education and traditional values properly. Satyam Roy Choudhary, Chancellor of the University, spoke about the changing approaches to learning and teaching methods with the advent of new technology in the education sector.
Chandra Shekhar Ghosh expressed his gratitude and pride in receiving the honorary doctorate from Sister Nivedita University. Ramakrishna Math announced the launch of the Vivekananda Fellowship, which will support researchers at the University. The ceremony was attended by eminent personalities, academicians, and students of the University.
