Governor CV Ananda Bose raises questions about the whereabouts of TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh, seeking clarification from the state govt
The inquiry follows an attack on an ED team during a raid on Sheikh's house in Sadeshkhali
ED issued a look-out notice for Sheikh, stating that his mobile phone's location reveals that he was present at his home during the attack
Governor CV Ananda Bose has raised questions about the whereabouts of Trinamool Congress's (TMC) block-level functionary leader, Shahjahan Sheikh, seeking a clarification from state government. The governor has also demanded accountability for the failure of law and order, directing punishment for police officers who may have faltered in their duties, said an official from Governor's office.
“The governor has also directed the state government to fix responsibility for the failure of law and order and punish the police officers who failed in their duties,” said an official.
The governor's inquiry comes on the heels of an attack on an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team attempting to raid Sheikh's house in connection with an alleged ration distribution scam.
TMC minister Jyoti Priya Mallick has already been arrested in connection with the case. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel accompanying the ED team also reportedly faced attacks. ED, which has issued a look-out notice for Sheikh, said his mobile phone’s location showed he was in the house on Friday when the agency’s team went to search his premises.
