Governor CV Anand Bose called State Election Commissioner Rajiv Sinha to Raj Bhavan to discuss the ongoing clashes and irregularities during the panchayat election nominations in Bengal.
The Governor emphasized the need for peaceful polling and inquired about the availability of central forces. The State Election Commission has called for an all-party meeting on June 13.
Congress President Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary wrote a letter to the Governor, urging the deployment of central forces in response to the alleged murder of a Congress worker in Khargram. BJP President Sukant Majumdar also echoed the demand for central forces. Meanwhile, Congress workers protested in front of the Raj Bhavan, demanding justice for the slain party worker.
Concerned about the chaotic situation during the nomination process, the Governor instructed the Election Commissioner to take appropriate action and ensure peaceful nominations.
The State Election Commission has sought reports from District Magistrates to investigate the complaints and disruptions. The Governor's intervention aims to maintain law and order during the elections.
