Political leaders in West Bengal are making frantic efforts to meet Governor Dr. CV Anand Bose, who is currently touring North Bengal amidst the panchayat election fervor.
Despite the continuous rainfall, opposition leaders from the BJP, CPI(M), and Congress have gathered outside the Circuit House in Cooch Behar, equipped with umbrellas. Among them are MLAs and Panchayat election candidates.
The Governor has assured the leaders that he will take necessary steps to ensure peace in the violence-affected areas of Cooch Behar ahead of the upcoming panchayat elections. Consequently, representatives from various opposition parties have been seeking an audience with the Governor throughout the day. Their primary objective is to apprise him of the prevailing "violence" in the region prior to the elections.
A group of five BJP MLAs were among the first to meet the Governor, followed by Union Minister of State for Home, Nishith Pramanik.
Sources suggest that after the meeting at the Circuit House, the Governor is scheduled to visit a private hospital to meet political activists who have been victims of violence. Subsequently, he will proceed to Dinhatta to assess the areas affected by the unrest. However, the ruling Trinamool Congress has raised concerns and questioned the Governor's "hyperactivity" in the lead-up to the panchayat elections.
