Disruption in metro services between Dumdum and Dakshineswar; normal services resume after 2 hours
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has taken decisive action by banning 18 Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms in India for hosting obscene and vulgar content. Following repeated warnings, the government also blocked numerous social media handles associated with these platforms. The move comes amidst growing concerns regarding the accessibility of inappropriate content on digital platforms.
The ban extends to apps accused of disseminating 'pornographic' material, with seven of the prohibited apps available on Google Play Store and three on Apple App Store. In a statement released by the government, it was revealed that 19 websites, 10 apps, and 57 social media handles of OTT platforms have been restricted nationwide.
