In response to the ongoing farmers' protests, the Haryana government has prolonged the suspension of mobile internet and bulk SMS services in seven districts until February 23. This decision follows an earlier extension of the ban until February 19, reflecting the administration's efforts to curb the dissemination of misinformation and maintain public order amidst the standoff.
According to a notification issued by the Haryana administration, the extended suspension aims to prevent the spread of false information and rumors through social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, and Twitter, which could potentially incite violence and disrupt peace. The order specifically targets districts Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Jind, Hisar, Fatehabad, and Sirsa, emphasizing the necessity to mitigate any threats to public safety and prevent damage to public and private properties.
Meanwhile, amid escalating tensions, at least 12 police personnel sustained serious injuries in clashes with protesting farmers at the Data Singh-Khanauri border during the "Delhi Chalo" march. Haryana police, addressing the situation through social media, urged protesters to refrain from violent activities, highlighting the risks posed by such actions to both protesters and law enforcement officers.
