Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
Employees responsible for collecting Gram Panchayat taxes staged a sit-in protest on Tuesday after police blocked their planned march to the Panchayat Bhavan. The march was called to protest delayed payments, denial of government benefits, and long-pending service issues.
According to the protesters, barricades were erected as they reached the Panchayat Bhavan, forcing them to begin a dharna at the spot. The demonstrators, drawn from the Panchayat and Rural Development Department’s tax collection wing, raised slogans and demanded immediate attention to their grievances.
The employees alleged that while the government collects revenue through their work, they are deprived of basic facilities and fair compensation. They said salaries have not been revised for the past five years, prompting them to submit a deputation seeking timely payments, benefits, and a salary hike.
