Three Myanmar nationals, comprising a man and two women, were detained by the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Kolkata’s Sealdah Station late on Friday night for allegedly entering India illegally. The trio lacked passports and valid identification documents, which led to their detention and subsequent questioning.
The GRP stated that the man identified himself as Abdul Rahman and claimed that the two women were his family members. During interrogation, Abdul disclosed that they had entered India from Myanmar by paying ₹20,000 to intermediaries. The detainees failed to provide specific details about their purpose of travel or their intended destination.
Suspicion arose when a ticket checker at Sealdah Station noticed their unusual behavior. Upon being approached, they could not provide satisfactory answers about their travel plans, prompting the checker to inform railway police. Abdul also mentioned having acquaintances in Delhi who are employed as laborers, though this claim is currently under verification by authorities.
The GRP is investigating the detainees’ route into India, their affiliations, and whether they are part of a broader network involved in illegal immigration or trafficking. Efforts are ongoing to verify their identities and nationality and to determine if other individuals are connected to their entry.
