Six people, including the gunman, were killed in a mass shooting at Bangkok’s Or Tor Kor Market on Monday. The incident occurred at the busy fresh food market located near the popular Chatuchak market area in the Thai capital. Authorities confirmed that the attacker died by suicide after opening fire inside the marketplace.
According to Erawan Emergency Medical Centre, the deceased include four security guards employed at the market and one woman. The sixth deceased was the gunman, whose identity has not yet been disclosed by police. The shooting took place during regular business hours, causing panic among vendors and customers.
Deputy police chief of Bang Sue district, Worapat Sukthai, stated, “Police are investigating the motive. So far it's a mass shooting.” He added that they are examining “any possible link” between the shooting and ongoing border clashes between Thailand and Cambodia. The investigation remains ongoing.
Footage from CCTV cameras at the market showed people running from stores as the gunfire broke out. Emergency responders and forensic teams reached the site soon after the incident and began gathering evidence. The area was cordoned off, and security was increased at the market following the attack.
This is the latest in a series of gun-related incidents in Thailand. In May 2025, a 33-year-old man killed three people in U Thong District. In October 2023, a 14-year-old shot and killed two people at a shopping mall in Bangkok. In 2022, a former police officer killed 36 people, including 24 children, at a child care centre in northeast Thailand.
