The Haryana government ordered the suspension of mobile internet and bulk SMS services in the Nuh district from Sunday 6 PM to Monday 6 PM ahead of the Braj Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra. This precautionary measure aims to prevent the spread of misinformation and maintain peace in the communally sensitive area, which experienced severe communal violence on July 31 last year. The violence resulted in six deaths, including two home guards, and injuries to at least 200 people. The Haryana police have implemented extensive security arrangements to ensure the yatra proceeds smoothly.
Nuh, a Muslim-dominated district, witnessed significant unrest during last year's yatra when mobs attacked the religious procession, leading to widespread damage to public and private property, and the imposition of a curfew. The state administration's current directive, issued by Haryana additional chief secretary (Home) Anurag Rastogi, reflects concerns over potential tensions and disturbances. The suspension of services is intended to curb the spread of rumors and ensure public safety.
