Health worker arrested in Gujarat for leaking BSF, Navy info to Pakistani agent via WhatsApp

In a major breakthrough, Gujarat’s Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested a multipurpose health worker for allegedly spying for Pakistan. The accused, Sahdev Singh Gohil, was taken into custody from the Kutch border area after authorities discovered he had been sharing sensitive information about Border Security Force (BSF) and Indian Air Force (IAF) installations with an ISI-linked handler.

Gohil, a government health worker, reportedly came into contact with a woman named Aditi Bharadwaj via WhatsApp in mid-2023. Believing her to be an Indian citizen, he later found out she was a Pakistani agent. She instructed him to send photographs and videos of newly constructed or under-construction BSF and IAF sites. He complied, sending the material via WhatsApp.

In early 2025, Gohil went a step further and bought a SIM card using his Aadhaar credentials to activate WhatsApp for Bharadwaj using an OTP. All communication and file exchanges took place through this number. Officials also confirmed that he received ₹40,000 in cash from an unknown individual as compensation. The number used by Bharadwaj was traced to Pakistan, and Gohil’s phone has now been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis.

The case has been registered under Sections 61 and 148 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against both Gohil and the Pakistani agent. His arrest comes amid a broader crackdown on espionage, with 11 other individuals—including a YouTuber and a travel vlogger—detained across Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh in recent weeks. All were allegedly involved in leaking classified information to Pakistan post the deadly Pahalgam terror attack on April 22.

Courts have responded strongly. In one such case, the Delhi High Court denied bail to Mohsin Khan, who was arrested earlier under the Official Secrets Act for leaking Indian Army data. The court said the crime was not just institutional but a direct threat to national sovereignty, warranting no leniency.
