Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
A young man was brutally beaten to death on Friday afternoon in the Meghna area under Jagaddal police station limits, triggering widespread tension across the locality. The deceased was identified as Mohammad Istehak Ahmed, a resident of Garulia in Shyamnagar. Police suspect the murder may be linked to old enmity and a battle for local dominance.
According to eyewitness accounts and preliminary findings, Istehak had gone to the Meghna area for personal work when he was surrounded at a deserted spot by a group of assailants. The attackers allegedly assaulted him with sticks, rods and heavy objects, continuing the attack even as he tried to escape, leaving him critically injured.
Local residents intervened and police rushed the injured youth to B.N. Basu Hospital in Barrackpore, where doctors declared him dead due to severe head and internal injuries. Medical examination revealed multiple injury marks indicating a sustained and violent assault.
Following the incident, police patrolling has been intensified in the Jagaddal–Shyamnagar border areas, with additional forces deployed to maintain order. CCTV footage from nearby locations is being examined and raids are underway to identify and arrest those involved, as investigations continue into possible gang involvement and past disputes.
