Heavy rain alert for North Bengal; heatwave in south

The Meteorological Department issues an alert for heavy rain in five districts of North Bengal as extreme heat grips South Bengal for the past three days. Kolkata experienced scorching temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius on Sunday, with forecasts predicting scattered rain and thunderstorms across the state on Monday. Maximum and minimum temperatures across most districts are recorded 2 to 3 degrees above normal, causing discomfort among residents amidst high humidity.

In North Bengal, heavy rain occurred on Sunday, but the weather is expected to shift with scattered rain and thunderstorms forecasted for Monday. Alerts are issued for Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Cooch Behar districts, with potential wind speeds of 30-40 kilometers per hour. Meanwhile, South Bengal anticipates rising temperatures with the possibility of a heat wave in the first week of April, prompting concerns of soaring temperatures nearing 40 degrees Celsius in districts like Purulia, Bankura, West Medinipur, and West Burdwan.
