A cyclonic circulation has become active over South Bengal, leading to the issuance of yellow and orange warnings for multiple districts from June 26 to June 28. The system is expected to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds ranging from 30 to 40 kmph in districts including East and West Midnapore, Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, and West Burdwan. Kolkata is likely to record a maximum temperature of 33°C and a minimum of 27°C, with intermittent rainfall forecast for the city.
The rainfall is expected to continue through June 27, which coincides with the Rath Yatra festival. On that day, heavy rain is likely across many parts of South Bengal, though East Midnapore may receive comparatively lighter showers. District administrations have been alerted in advance. Weather-related warnings are also in effect for Birbhum, East Burdwan, West Burdwan, West Midnapore, Jhargram, Purulia, and Bankura.
The warnings are part of a precautionary measure due to the prevailing weather system, which may cause disruptions in routine activities in some areas. The alert status is expected to remain in force until June 28, depending on the progression of the cyclonic activity. Residents have been advised to remain cautious during periods of intense rainfall.
