Rainfall has continued across several districts of West Bengal due to a low-pressure system, but officials confirmed that the system is weakening and moving towards Bihar. As a result, immediate chances of widespread heavy rain have reduced in many regions of the state.
Cloudy conditions are expected to prevail, with isolated moderate rainfall in several areas. On Sunday, East Bardhaman, West Bardhaman, Nadia, North 24 Parganas, Birbhum, and Murshidabad districts are expected to witness wind speeds of 40–50 km/h along with light to moderate rainfall and occasional thunderstorms. Kolkata and surrounding areas may also record wind speeds of 30–40 km/h under partly cloudy skies.
For Monday, the forecast indicates the possibility of thunderstorms and rainfall in some parts of the state. However, a significant change is expected from Tuesday onwards in South Bengal. Districts including Purulia, Bankura, Jhargram, South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, and West Midnapore are likely to experience heavy rainfall between Tuesday and Thursday, accompanied by thunder, lightning, and gusty winds. These areas have been placed under a rainfall alert.
North Bengal districts are expected to witness challenging weather conditions over the next few days. Between Sunday and Tuesday, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar districts. The forecast also includes warnings of lightning and strong surface winds in these regions.
Authorities have advised that due to continuous rainfall, localised waterlogging, temporary traffic disruptions, and possible thunderstorm-related incidents may occur in vulnerable areas. The forecast is being monitored closely for further updates.
