Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
Heavy snowfall and rain have severely disrupted normal life across Himachal Pradesh, with more than 1,250 roads remaining closed, affecting connectivity in several districts. Despite the disruption, tourists continue to arrive at snow-bound destinations to enjoy the winter scenery.
Public Works Department minister Vikramaditya Singh said restoration work is underway on a war footing to reopen closed roads. Snow blowers, JCB machines and other heavy equipment have been deployed across the state to clear accumulated snow and debris.
The minister said that while the weather has caused inconvenience, it has brought long-awaited rain and snowfall, offering relief to farmers. He noted that the precipitation will benefit upcoming crops, especially in hilly regions dependent on winter moisture.
Authorities are also focusing on assisting stranded tourists and easing traffic congestion. Coordination is being maintained with district administrations, including police and civil authorities, to ensure safety and restore essential movement as quickly as possible.
Singh said further snowfall would help recharge water sources and maintain soil moisture, which is crucial for orchards and agriculture. Around 3,500 machines have already been deployed, with more to be arranged if required.
Officials have urged locals and tourists to remain cautious, follow weather advisories and avoid unnecessary travel, as adverse weather conditions are likely to continue in the coming days.
