A tragic accident on Kolkata’s Maa flyover claimed the life of a young man in the early hours of Wednesday. According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around 5 am on the ramp leading to Science City from Park Circus, when the youth’s bike skidded violently due to excessive speed and possible distraction.
Preliminary reports suggest that the deceased was riding without a helmet and talking on his mobile phone, which was tucked near his neck, while riding at a dangerously high speed. The bike lost balance and skidded, throwing the rider several meters from the crash site.
Eyewitnesses stated that although CCTV cameras were present and traffic guards were stationed under the flyover, no one came to assist the injured youth, who lay bleeding on the flyover for nearly 40 minutes before the police arrived. The delay in emergency response has raised serious concerns about on-ground coordination and real-time vigilance.
The motorcycle was found approximately 200 meters away from where the body lay, indicating the force and velocity involved in the crash. Despite clear signs of the incident, no immediate efforts were made to take the youth to a hospital, say pedestrians.
The Kolkata Police have launched an investigation and are reviewing surveillance footage to establish the exact sequence of events. The identity of the deceased youth is yet to be confirmed, and efforts are on to trace his family.
