High Court grants autopsy request in controversial amherst street case amidst allegations of police brutality

The Calcutta High Court has allowed the family of Ashok Kumar Singh, who was found dead in the Amherst Street police station area, to conduct an autopsy at AIIMS, demanding transparency through videography. The family accuses the police of beating Ashok to death within 10-15 minutes, a claim contested by the police who assert that he fell head-over-heels in the lock-up. The matter has now escalated to the Calcutta High Court, where the family seeks justice amid claims of denied access to crucial CCTV footage from the police station.

Desiring transparency, the family urges the court to facilitate a thorough investigation and demands permission for Ashok's post-mortem at AIIMS, with videography for accountability. Adding a political twist to the narrative, it comes to light that Ashok made a last call to a local BJP leader, Madan Lal, from within the police station. The opposition's call for a CBI probe deepens the controversy surrounding the alleged police brutality in Amherst Street.
