A speeding dumper collided head-on with a taxi on GT Road in Howrah’s Bally Devnagaji area late Wednesday night, killing two people and critically injuring four. The impact was so severe that the taxi was flung into a nearby house, completely wrecking the vehicle. A 27-second CCTV footage of the accident, obtained by Taaza TV, shows the dumper turning sharply near a pothole before ramming into the taxi coming from the opposite direction. Eyewitnesses reported that the dumper was moving at an uncontrollable speed before the crash.
Local residents alerted the police, and emergency teams rushed the injured to a nearby hospital, where they remain in critical condition. The dumper driver fled the scene, and police have launched a search operation to track him down. Authorities have seized the vehicle, and preliminary investigations suggest overspeeding as a possible cause. The accident led to temporary traffic disruption on GT Road, which was later cleared.
