A bus carrying fourty passengers veered off a road in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district on Thursday and fell into a gorge injuring several people, the police said.
According to the Superintendent of Police, Mandi the incident occurred near Kharod area in the district. The driver and the conductor of the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) were also among the ones injured, the police informed.
Eyewitnesses said that the bus was obstructed by a tree from falling deeper into the gorge. The local authorities alerted ambulances which reached the spot and carried out emergency rescue operations with the help of the residents of the neighbouring areas.
The police are yet to determine the exact reason for the incident and an investigation is underway. The condition of those injured was said to be stable.
Earlier on Tuesday, four people were killed when a car fell into a gorge in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district, police said. Road accidents are frequent occurrences in the hill state. From Thursday’s bus accident, no casualties were reported so far.
