Himanta Biswa Sarma takes oath as Assam CM for 2nd time, Suvendu calls him ‘elder brother’

Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday took oath as the Chief Minister of Assam for a second consecutive term during a swearing-in ceremony held at the Veterinary College ground in Khanapara, Guwahati. Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the programme along with several senior BJP leaders and Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled states. After taking oath, Himanta Biswa Sarma greeted the Prime Minister at the venue.

Along with Himanta Biswa Sarma, four ministers were also sworn into the new Assam cabinet. The ministers who took oath included Rameswar Teli, Atul Bora of the Asom Gana Parishad, Charan Boro of the Bodoland People’s Front and Ajanta Neog. Assam Governor administered the oath of office and secrecy during the ceremony.

Before the programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the Veterinary College ground in Khanapara for the oath-taking event. Himanta Biswa Sarma also reached the venue shortly before the ceremony began. Senior BJP leaders and NDA representatives attended the swearing-in event as large crowds gathered at the venue from different parts of the state.

Earlier in the day, Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the names of the ministers who would join his cabinet and also declared senior BJP leader Ranjeet Kumar Dass as the NDA candidate for the post of Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly. BJP leaders stated that the NDA government was taking oath in Assam for a third consecutive term.

Suvendu Adhikari, who travelled to Guwahati to attend the ceremony, praised BJP workers in Assam for their role during the West Bengal Assembly elections. He also stated that Assam’s policies against infiltrators would be implemented in West Bengal. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant congratulated Himanta Biswa Sarma on assuming office for a second consecutive term.
