Home Ministry seeks report from Bengal Secy by 5 pm on President Murmu's event row

The Ministry of Home Affairs has launched a serious administrative inquiry into what is being termed a massive protocol breach during President Droupadi Murmu’s recent visit to West Bengal. Union Home Secretary has issued a formal notice to the West Bengal Chief Secretary, demanding a comprehensive report by 5 PM today. The investigation centers on why the mandatory "Blue Book" security and protocol guidelines were ignored, noting that neither Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee nor the Chief Secretary was present to officially welcome or see off the President. Instead, only the Mayor of Siliguri was in attendance, a move seen as a major constitutional slight.

The Home Ministry’s inquiry highlights shocking details regarding the logistical mismanagement. According to the notice, the temporary toilet facilities built for the President lacked water, and the designated convoy route was reportedly strewn with garbage and uncleared waste. The Centre has specifically sought an explanation for these lapses from the District Magistrate of Darjeeling and the Siliguri administration, demanding to know what disciplinary actions have been initiated against the responsible officials.

President Murmu herself broke from convention on Saturday to voice her dissatisfaction during a tribal community event near Bagdogra Airport. She openly questioned the decision to move the venue from Bidhannagar, which resulted in a significantly low turnout of the tribal population she intended to address. The President’s direct mention of the absence of the Chief Minister and state ministers has further intensified the political friction between the Trinamool Congress government and the Central leadership.
