Hooghly-based dancer Sutandra Chatterjee’s driver, Rajdev Sharma, was arrested in connection with her fatal car accident on February 24 in Panagarh. He was detained from Chandannagar at midnight and taken to Kanksa before being presented in court, where he was remanded to judicial custody. The arrest followed multiple changes in his statements regarding the crash. Initially, he claimed that a white SUV was following their vehicle and that Sutandra was harassed, but he later retracted the statement, raising suspicions about his role in the incident.
Sutandra Chatterjee was traveling to Gaya for an event when her car overturned on National Highway 19 in Panagarh, resulting in her death. Her mother had appealed for an investigation into driver Rajdev Sharma’s role, citing inconsistencies in his statements. Following this, the police charged him under IPC sections 281, 125(A), 105, and 324(2). Authorities are examining the exact sequence of events leading to the crash and whether any external factors were involved.
The case has gained attention due to the nature of the accident and the conflicting statements made by the driver. Investigators are now focusing on gathering additional evidence, including forensic reports and eyewitness accounts, to determine the cause of the crash. Police have stated that further interrogation of Rajdev Sharma will take place to clarify his statements and verify any possible involvement of other parties in the incident.
