A 27-year-old man from Bashogram village in Dhanekhali, Hooghly district, drowned in the sea at Digha while bathing with relatives. The incident took place around 2 PM on Monday at the Sior Gholaghat area of Old Digha, where the youth had entered the water. He was reportedly pulled into deeper waters and went missing shortly after.
On Tuesday around 11:45 AM, a body was spotted floating in the water near the New Jagannath Temple ghat in New Digha by police personnel. The body was immediately retrieved and taken to Digha State General Hospital, where doctors confirmed the death. Family members later identified the deceased as the youth who went missing the previous day.
Following recovery, the body was sent to Kanthi Sub-Divisional Hospital for post-mortem. Police have initiated a case and documented the statements of family members and eyewitnesses. The local administration was informed, and further procedures are underway as per protocol.
