A woman’s death at a private nursing home in Bankra sparked massive unrest late Wednesday night, as allegations of medical negligence led to violent retaliation. Sabina Yasmin (38), a resident of Munshidanga Shekha Pada, was admitted to Central Nursing Home with stomach pain. Her family alleged that doctors administered a painkiller immediately after admission, following which her health deteriorated rapidly and she passed away.
As news of her death spread, hundreds of angry locals gathered outside the hospital. The crowd stormed the premises, vandalising hospital property including windows, doors, medical equipment, and furniture. Several patients and staff were caught in the chaos, with some hospital personnel locking themselves inside rooms in fear.
Police from Bankra Phaadi rushed to the spot and were soon joined by Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel to bring the situation under control. The hospital was evacuated, and the area remains tense. Police have sent Sabina’s body for postmortem to determine the exact cause of death and have assured an impartial probe. While no arrests have been made yet, CCTV footage is being reviewed to identify those responsible for the vandalism.
