No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has officially released the first supplementary voter list for West Bengal, following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Manoj Agarwal confirmed that the list was uploaded around 11:55 PM on Monday night. This release is a critical step in the lead-up to the April assembly elections, as it addresses the status of several lakh voters whose names were previously held "under adjudication" due to various discrepancies.
The publication follows a massive exercise mandated by the Supreme Court, where over 700 judicial officers were engaged to scrutinize 60.06 lakh pending cases. According to official reports, approximately 29 lakh cases have been adjudicated so far. While the first list is now public, the CEO noted that more supplementary lists will be released in phases as the remaining cases are settled. The delay in publication—originally expected earlier in the day—was attributed to the complex electronic signing and server-side processing required by the ECI headquarters in Delhi.
Voters can verify their status both online and offline to ensure their eligibility for the upcoming two-phase polls on April 23 and 29. Online, the list is accessible via the official ECI website (voters.eci.gov.in), CEO West Bengal website (https://ceowestbengal.wb.gov.in) and the ECI Net mobile application using the EPIC (Voter ID) number. For those unable to access digital platforms, the commission has mandated that physical copies be displayed at every polling booth, as well as at the offices of the District Magistrate (DM), Additional District Magistrate (ADM), and Electoral Registration Officers (EROs).
