Train services on the Howrah-Amta branch were disrupted once more during office hours on Tuesday. The down Amta-Howrah local train developed a mechanical fault on Tuesday morning, causing it to stop at Bankara Nayabaz station. As a result, several trains were halted on the same line, leading to significant inconvenience for daily commuters.
According to reports, the train driver was forced to stop due to a mechanical fault in the wheel and engine. He promptly informed the relevant officials and the train was evacuated. Railway employees and officials arrived at the scene, and after approximately one and a half hours of effort, the train was moved from the station.
The South Eastern Railway is investigating the cause of the mechanical fault. Swapan Dutta, the Public Relations Officer of South Eastern Railway, stated, "The train stopped due to a mechanical fault. The passengers were sent to Howrah by another train. Railway engineers are investigating the matter, and the incident will be thoroughly examined."
This incident follows a disruption on July 29 when train movement on the Howrah-Amta branch was halted due to a tree branch falling on the overhead wire near Bargachhia station. On the same day, passengers stopped a train at Tikiapara station during peak hours, sitting on the railway line and protesting until they received a written assurance from the railway authorities.
