From morning, people flocked to various iconic tourist spots, creating a vibrant atmosphere across the metropolitan area. Howrah Bridge, Victoria Memorial, Planetarium, Magic House, Indian Museum, Echo Park, and Nikko Park were among the locations where large crowds gathered to welcome the New Year.
Despite the cold weather, the enthusiasm of the people remained high as they enjoyed the festivities with friends, family, and loved ones. Kolkata Police implemented comprehensive security measures to ensure the safety of the revelers.
As part of the New Year celebrations, residents and tourists alike gathered early at popular tourist destinations, with many arriving from suburban areas through local trains, metro, and buses. Beyond Kolkata, large numbers of tourists flocked to the beaches of Digha and the hills of North Bengal to usher in the New Year with scenic views and celebrations. To maintain law and order, an additional 1500 police personnel, including women officers, were deployed, with Deputy Commissioners overseeing safety.
Police Assistance Centers, High Radio Flying Squads, and Quick Response Teams were actively stationed, and surveillance was conducted through drones in key areas.Despite comprehensive security arrangements, some incidents were reported. Nevertheless, the overall joyous spirit of the New Year celebrations in Kolkata remained prominent.
