Howrah civic body orders cattle sheds to relocate outside city within 15 days

The Howrah Municipal Corporation has launched a major drive against cattle sheds operating within city limits and has issued notices directing owners to relocate their livestock and facilities outside the city within 15 days. Civic authorities have stated that failure to comply with the deadline will result in administrative action, including eviction operations with police assistance and demolition equipment.

According to municipal officials, several cattle sheds continue to operate in densely populated residential areas across Howrah. Authorities allege that large quantities of cow dung and other waste from these establishments are being discharged into drainage channels, causing severe blockages in the city's drainage network. The civic body has identified the issue as part of its broader effort to address waterlogging and improve sanitation before the monsoon season.

Municipal sources stated that legal notices are being served to identified cattle-shed owners, directing them to voluntarily relocate their operations to rural areas or designated locations outside the city. Officials have indicated that, if required, legal proceedings may be initiated and further administrative measures taken against establishments that continue operating after the deadline.

The latest initiative follows earlier civic drives against illegal constructions and encroachments in several parts of the state. Officials stated that previous efforts to remove cattle sheds had not achieved lasting results, but the corporation has now begun a fresh enforcement process aimed at clearing such establishments from residential neighbourhoods and reducing pressure on urban infrastructure.
