Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
Howrah police have arrested Moidul Islam Tarafdar from Sankrail in connection with a counterfeit currency trade circulating fake 500 rupee notes in the state. The arrest comes four days after the main accused, a priest from Howrah, was apprehended.
During interrogation of the priest, names of two individuals from Sankrail and Burdwan surfaced, leading police to track down Tarafdar. The investigation revealed that fake currency was being sent to the Howrah priest from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, before entering circulation in local markets.
Police have confirmed that the trade involved multiple intermediaries and are continuing to interrogate the accused to identify further links and prevent additional circulation of counterfeit notes. Law enforcement agencies are coordinating to crack down on the entire network operating across the state.
Authorities have urged the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious currency to the nearest police station, while assuring that strict action will be taken against all involved in the racket.
