A disturbing case of public assault has emerged from Howrah, where a woman was physically attacked by a Toto driver during a minor fare-related argument. The incident occurred in the Shibpur Kazipara area and has triggered widespread outrage.
According to eyewitnesses, the woman was returning home in a Toto when she questioned the fare being demanded. This led to a verbal exchange that quickly turned violent. The driver allegedly got down from the vehicle, removed his shoe, and repeatedly hit the woman in full public view.
Shocked bystanders intervened to stop the attack and helped the woman to safety. She later filed a police complaint. Locals expressed anger over the increasing instances of unruly behavior by some Toto drivers and demanded stricter regulation.
The police have launched an investigation and assured action. Authorities are scanning nearby CCTV footage to identify the accused if not already detained. The incident has once again raised questions about the safety of women commuters and the lack of accountability in the unregulated Toto sector.
