Humayun Kabir to move court after Centre withdraws Y-Plus security cover

The Union Home Ministry has withdrawn the Y-Plus central security cover provided to Amjanata Unnayan Party (AJUP) leader and Naoda MLA Humayun Kabir. According to Humayun, the ministry informed him of the decision through an email on Monday evening, following which the central security personnel assigned to him began leaving their duties. He has announced that he will approach the court on Thursday seeking restoration of the security arrangement.

Humayun Kabir had earlier approached the court seeking security protection after launching his political party. Acting on a court directive, the Union Home Ministry subsequently granted him Y-Plus security cover. The security detail consisted of 13 personnel, including one inspector, one sub-inspector and eleven constables. The arrangement was further strengthened during the election period before being withdrawn by the Centre.

Reacting to the decision, Humayun questioned why his security cover had been removed while protection for Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and Naushad Siddiqui remained in place. He stated that he would challenge the decision through legal proceedings and seek judicial intervention regarding the withdrawal. He also said that state police authorities had informed him that security personnel from the state force would be provided.

The grant of central security to Humayun Kabir had previously generated political controversy. Leaders of the Trinamool Congress had alleged that his acceptance of central protection reflected political proximity to the Bharatiya Janata Party. The issue had remained a subject of political debate since the security cover was first sanctioned.

Humayun also commented on the recently formed “New Trinamool” faction through a social media post. He stated that recent political developments had revealed the identities of what he described as “real BJP agents.” He accused rebel Trinamool legislators of distancing themselves from Mamata Banerjee after securing electoral victories under her leadership. Humayun further said that he had never intended to leave the Trinamool Congress and form a separate party, claiming that AJUP was established only after his suspension from the party.
