As per the order of the High Court, the hunger strike of government employees, which started on Saturday, is continuing for the second consecutive day on Tuesday, demanding the payment of dearness allowance. The health of two of the government employees sitting on the dharna on the stage built in Dharmatala has deteriorated. The health condition of an employee named Sanjay Chakraborty deteriorated after which he was admitted to SSKM Hospital late at night.
He was admitted to RN Tagore Hospital in the early hours of Tuesday after his condition deteriorated. Another employee named Anirudh Bhattacharya's health deteriorated after which he was taken to SSKM Hospital on Tuesday morning. However, the rest of the employees are continuously sitting on dharna and raising slogans in support of their demands. Like Monday, the work in most of the government offices has come to a standstill on Tuesday. In support of the dharna in Kolkata, the government employees have observed a token strike in the districts as well.
Employees of almost all the departments have gone on strike since Monday under the banner of Sangrami Samyukta Manch, due to which the work in the government offices of the state has come to a standstill. The strike has also been supported by the State Coordination Committee, the largest organization of government employees. State Chief Secretary Hari Krishna Dwivedi has been informed about the stoppage of work by writing a letter.
The organization has demanded that dearness allowance should be paid from the year 2009 till now. Along with this, a demand has been made by the organization to fill vacant government posts in the state in a transparent manner and to reduce the workload on the employees.
