Husband kills wife, dies by suicide in locked room at home in Jalpaiguri

The bodies of a husband and wife were found inside a locked room in the Gadadhar Colony area under Kharia Gram Panchayat of Jalpaiguri district on Wednesday morning. The deceased have been identified as Santosh Barman (55) and his wife Leena Barman (50). According to police sources, preliminary investigation suggests that Leena Barman died due to injuries caused by a sharp weapon, while Santosh Barman’s body was recovered hanging from the ceiling inside the same room.

Family members and local residents stated that the couple often had quarrels. On Tuesday night, after having dinner, Santosh and Leena went to sleep in their room as usual. When they did not come out of the room until late the next morning, their son grew suspicious. He knocked on the door and called out but received no response. As neighbours gathered, the door was eventually broken open. Leena was found lying on the bed with deep neck wounds and blood around her, while Santosh was found hanging nearby.

Police recovered a sharp weapon from the room and sent both bodies for post-mortem examination. Officers have recorded statements from family members and neighbours. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances and timeline of the incident.
