Hyderabad woman jumps from moving train to escape attempted rape; Suffers injuries

A 23-year-old woman suffered multiple injuries after she jumped from a moving train in Hyderabad to escape an attempted rape by an unknown man inside a ladies’ coach. The incident occurred on the evening of March 22 when the woman was traveling alone in an MMTS (Multi-Modal Transport Service) train from Medchal to Secunderabad railway station.

According to the victim’s statement to the government railway police (GRP), she was initially accompanied by two other female passengers. However, they deboarded at Alwal railway station, after which an unknown man entered the coach. Moments later, the approximately 25-year-old suspect approached her and demanded sexual favors. When she refused, he attempted to assault her. Fearing for her safety, she made a desperate attempt to escape by jumping from the moving train.

The woman sustained injuries to her head, chin, right hand, and waist due to the fall. Passers-by at the station noticed her in distress and immediately took her to a nearby government hospital for medical attention. She is currently undergoing treatment.

Authorities have registered a case based on the woman’s complaint under sections 75 (assault or criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 131 (use of criminal force) of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita). The railway police have launched a manhunt to track down the accused, with investigations underway to analyze CCTV footage from railway stations along the route.

The victim has stated that she can identify the suspect if she sees him again, aiding the investigation. Law enforcement officials are also reviewing security measures for women passengers traveling in ladies’ compartments to prevent such incidents in the future.

The case has sparked outrage over women’s safety in public transport, with demands for increased railway security, stricter monitoring, and better surveillance inside train compartmen
