In a shocking incident, an Indian Air Force (IAF) civil engineer, SN Mishra, was shot dead at his official residence in the cantonment area of Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj early Saturday. The unidentified assailant, who appeared to have a premeditated intent to kill, is currently on the run.
The attack took place around 3:00 a.m. when Mishra was inside his bungalow. According to police sources, an unknown person called out to him from the lawn. As soon as Mishra opened his window to check, the assailant fired at him and fled the scene before anyone could react. Mishra was critically injured and succumbed to his wounds soon after.
Authorities have launched a manhunt for the attacker, with police teams scanning CCTV footage from the surrounding area. Investigators suspect personal or professional enmity could be a possible motive, though no clear leads have emerged yet. Senior police officers are at the crime scene, gathering evidence and questioning witnesses.
Mishra’s wife and son, who were at home during the incident, have given statements to the police. They described how the attacker strategically lured him to the window before opening fire. The sudden and calculated nature of the attack has raised concerns about security in the high-profile cantonment area.
Police officials have assured a thorough probe and have deployed multiple teams to track down the suspect. Local intelligence units are also assisting in verifying any past threats or disputes Mishra may have had. Meanwhile, the IAF and defense officials have been briefed about the situation.
As investigations continue, the Prayagraj police are appealing to residents for any information that may help identify the attacker. With no arrests made yet, authorities remain on high alert, determined to bring the culprit to justice.
