IAF jawan and jeweller shot in separate robbery attempts in Bihar, one accused arrested

A spate of armed robberies rocked north Bihar on Wednesday as an Indian Air Force (IAF) jawan and a jewellery shop owner were shot and robbed in separate incidents within four hours. Police said one accused has been arrested while searches are underway for others involved.

The first incident took place around 4 pm near Ema village in Muzaffarpur when IAF personnel Abhishek Singh, currently posted in Gwalior, was travelling with his wife Kavita. Two motorcycle-borne men tried to snatch her gold chain, and when Singh resisted, one of them opened fire, injuring him in the stomach. Kavita managed to overpower one accused, leading to his arrest. Police recovered a pistol and empty cartridges from the spot. Doctors later confirmed Singh is out of danger.

Just a few hours later, jeweller Abhimanyu Kumar alias Sonu was targeted while travelling from his shop in Sitamarhi towards Minapur in Muzaffarpur. Two men on a bike intercepted him, tried to seize his bag containing gold and silver ornaments worth ₹20 lakh, and fired a shot that struck his arm. The assailants fled with his ornaments and motorcycle.

Both victims are receiving treatment in Muzaffarpur hospitals and are reported to be stable. “Cases have been registered, and separate teams have been constituted to investigate both the cases,” said DIG of Tirhut range, Chandan Kushwaha.
