Several freshly selected candidates for the post of ICDS Supervisor under the Women and Child Development Department held a protest at Kolkata’s Shaishali Bhavan on Tuesday. The candidates claimed that although they had cleared both the written examination and the physical test, they had not received their appointment letters. They entered the department office and began a sit-in demonstration demanding immediate issuance of joining orders.
During the protest, an officer from the department allegedly misbehaved with the women candidates. A video recorded during the incident shows the official shouting at and threatening the protestors. As the situation escalated, police arrived at the scene and locked the main entrance of the building from outside to restrict further entry. In response, the protestors locked the gate from inside to prevent anyone from exiting the premises.
The candidates said they had contacted the department multiple times but had not received any clear updates regarding the recruitment process. They stated that they would continue the protest until they are given official appointment letters. No official statement from the department was issued by the time of the protest.
