Illegal gun factory busted in joint raid by Kolkata STF, five arrested

Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police, in collaboration with the Bihar STF and Amdanda Police, uncovered an illegal mini gun factory in Chandpur village, Bhagalpur district, Bihar. Acting on special intelligence, the joint team conducted a raid on Tuesday, leading to the discovery of a weapons manufacturing unit operating in the Amdanda police station area.

Deputy Commissioner of the Kolkata Police STF, IPS V Suleman Nesha Kumar, confirmed the raid’s success on Wednesday. The raid resulted in the seizure of 15 semi-manufactured parts of 7.65 mm pistols, along with a variety of weapons manufacturing equipment. The police arrested five individuals, including four skilled weapons manufacturers and the owner of the land on which the factory was situated.

During the raid, a wide range of modern machinery, including lathe, milling, drilling, and grinding machines, were found, indicating an advanced setup for illegal weapon production. Raw materials used in the manufacture of pistols were also confiscated.

The arrested individuals were identified as Shivanandan Mandal (35), who owned the land where the factory was located, Anup Kumar Thakur (36), Rajesh Mandal (40), Rajit Kumar Yadav (27), and Sonu Kumar Singh (19), who were involved in the weapons manufacturing process.

Police revealed that the semi-manufactured 7.65 mm pistol parts seized from the factory included the body, slider, grip, and barrel. Investigators are now interrogating the suspects to trace the potential buyers of these illegal weapons and uncover the network behind the operation.

A special case has been registered at Amdanda police station, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities anticipate more raids in the coming days to dismantle this large-scale illegal arms manufacturing operation. The success of this raid is being viewed as a major step in curbing the rising production of illegal firearms in Bihar.
