After 17 days of Governor's advice, the Dhanbad district administration has finally swung into action to check illegal mining, transportation and storage of coal.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sandip Singh convened a meeting of the district-level 'Mining Task Force' and directed all the circle officers, head of police stations and senior officers of the coal companies to jointly review the month-long illegal mining and file an FIR against the person involved.
The DC, who is the chairman of the Mining Task Force, also directed them to cover the illegal mining entry points with concrete and with immediate effect, complete security measures at the entrance gate of the mine to prevent any unauthorized person from entering it.
The Dhanbad district administration has initiated steps following the advice of Governor Ramesh Bais. Addressing the Indian Mine Managers Association (IMMA) centenary national seminar at Koylanagar Dhanbad on January 20, the governor expressed concern over illegal coal mining in the district and advised the district administration to help the coal company in checking it as coal is a national property. Frequent tragedies related to illegal coal mining shook the state and the country.
The DC has also directed the constables to issue identity cards to their employees, provide security clothing and prohibit unauthorized persons from entering the coal mine premises. The task force has also decided to take action against squatters of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) under the PP Act.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanjiv Kumar has asked the officers of BCCL, Eastern Coalfield Limited (ECL) to file an FIR against people involved in illegal mining without fear. He also asked the officers of the police stations to identify the members of the syndicate who were involved in making fake coal transport permits.
