A joint team of the forest department and the Keredari police on Sunday raided an illegal sawmill where a huge amount of timber was harvested.
The raid was conducted in Neeri village under Salga panchayat in Keredari block. Efforts to identify those behind this illegal trade.
Acting on a tip-off, officials said a joint team conducted the raid and achieved great success. The wood obtained included expensive sakhuwa tree trunks. Assistant Conservator of Forests AK Parmar said they are further investigating who was operating the sawmill.
Logged timber brought to Barkagaon forest office. Forest officials said they regularly conduct raids to check such illegal activities. Apart from Parmar, the team consists of Keredari Police Station Senior Officer Sadhan Chand Gorai and others.
