Trump asks Apple CEO not to manufacture in India, says 'they can take care of themselves'
The Government of India has banned 16 YouTube channels based in Pakistan for circulating provocative, communally sensitive, and misleading content against India, especially in light of the recent Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. The decision was taken on the recommendation of the Ministry of Home Affairs to curb misinformation and prevent escalation of tensions.
Among the banned channels are major Pakistani outlets like Dawn News, Ary News, and Geo News. Authorities said the channels were found spreading false narratives targeting the Indian Army and security agencies, intending to create divisions and unrest during a sensitive time.
Additionally, the Indian government has conveyed strong objections to BBC India Head Jackie Martin regarding the broadcaster’s coverage of the Pahalgam incident. Officials criticized BBC for referring to the terrorists as "militants," arguing that such terminology downplays the severity of the attack and misleads international perception.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting also issued a broader advisory to all Indian media organizations. They have been instructed to avoid live coverage of any defence operations, including troop movements or anti-terror missions, especially those triggered after the Pahalgam attack.
The advisory specifically cautioned against airing visuals or sharing real-time updates based on "sources" during ongoing security operations. The government emphasized that premature reporting could jeopardize national security and put defence personnel at risk.
Amid growing tensions and security alerts, the Centre has made it clear that strict monitoring of media narratives, both domestic and international, will continue as part of India’s larger effort to counter misinformation and maintain internal stability.
