India beats Afghanistan by record margin of innings & 300 runs
India registered the biggest innings victory in their Test history after defeating Afghanistan by an innings and 300 runs in the one-off Test at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. The match ended on the third day, with India surpassing their previous record Test victory of an innings and 272 runs against West Indies in Rajkot in 2018.
Afghanistan were bowled out for 152 in their first innings before lunch on the third day in reply to India's first-innings total of 564 for 8 declared. Holding a lead of 412 runs, India enforced the follow-on and sent Afghanistan back to bat for a second time.
The visitors began their second innings positively, with openers Sediqullah Atal and Abdul Malik putting together a 42-run partnership. The stand was broken when Mohammed Siraj dismissed Malik, after which Afghanistan lost wickets at regular intervals and struggled to build any significant partnerships.
India's bowlers maintained control throughout the innings, with Washington Sundar leading the attack with figures of 4 for 36. Kuldeep Yadav provided strong support and claimed 3 for 30 as Afghanistan were dismissed for 112 in 35.5 overs.
The result mirrored the previous Test meeting between the two sides in Bengaluru in 2018, when Afghanistan played their maiden Test match and suffered an innings defeat against India. The latest victory was completed inside three days and established a new benchmark for India's largest winning margin by an innings in Test cricket.
