India’s Under-19 cricket team secured a commanding victory in the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2026 final, winning the title for a record-extending sixth time. Led by captain Ayush Mhatre, the Indian side defeated England Under-19s by 100 runs in the summit clash held at Harare Sports Club in Zimbabwe on Friday, underlining their sustained supremacy at the youth level.
The standout performance came from 14-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who produced a breathtaking innings of 175 runs off just 80 deliveries. His knock, featuring 15 fours and 15 sixes, set the foundation for India’s massive total of 411/9 in their allotted 50 overs. Sooryavanshi’s 175 is the highest individual score in an Under-19 World Cup final and propelled him to the top of the tournament’s run-scoring charts. In response, England battled but lost wickets at crucial intervals, eventually being bowled out for 311 in 40.2 overs. Caleb Falconer top-scored with a valiant 115, but it wasn’t enough to prevent India from clinching a dominant victory. India’s bowlers exerted consistent pressure, with RS Ambrish and Kanishk Chouhan among the key wicket-takers in the final innings.
The triumph marks India’s sixth Under-19 World Cup title, adding to their wins in 2000, 2008, 2012, 2018 and 2022, and extends their record as the most successful team in the competition’s history. Their journey to the final included setting the record for the highest successful run chase in the semifinal against Afghanistan, showcasing their depth and consistency throughout the tournament.
