India intercepts Pak's long range Fatah-II missile in Haryana's Sirsa, was Delhi the target?

Indian cities were placed on high alert on Saturday after Pakistan reportedly launched a military operation codenamed “Operation Bunyan ul Marsoos” against India. This development follows three days of escalating tensions marked by drone attacks and ceasefire violations. In a significant incident, Pakistan fired a Fatah-II long-range missile, which was successfully intercepted by Indian defence systems in Sirsa, Haryana.

The Pakistani Fatah-II missile is described as a surface-to-surface projectile with an estimated range of around 400 kilometres. While some unconfirmed reports suggest that the missile may have been aimed at Delhi, it was neutralized over Sirsa in Haryana. However, official statements from the Indian armed forces and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) are still awaited to confirm the specifics of the missile's trajectory and intended target.

The situation escalated further as Pakistan launched a fresh wave of drone attacks for the second consecutive night on Friday. These attacks reportedly targeted as many as 26 different locations, spanning a wide geographical area from Jammu and Kashmir in the north to Gujarat in the west. The Indian defence ministry stated that these attempts by the adversary to strike vital installations, including airports and air bases, were effectively thwarted by Indian forces.

Despite the widespread nature of the drone attacks, casualties were limited. Some members of a family in Ferozpur, Punjab, sustained injuries, marking the only known injuries resulting from the attacks carried out after nightfall. As a precautionary measure, all Indian states that share a border with Pakistan were placed under a blackout to minimize potential targeting and ensure public safety.

Amidst these hostile actions, authorities have confirmed that all Indian Air Force bases and other critical military installations across the country remain secure. The successful interception of the missile and the thwarting of multiple drone attacks highlight the preparedness and vigilance of India's defence apparatus. The high alert status remains in effect as the nation braces for any further provocations.
