In response to the global public health emergency declared due to mpox (monkeypox), the Indian government has ramped up precautionary measures across the country, with particular focus on hospitals and airports.
Sources within the Health Ministry have confirmed that hospitals nationwide have been directed to identify patients presenting with rashes, a key symptom of mpox, and to establish isolation wards for potential cases. This step is part of the broader strategy to contain any outbreak and provide immediate care to affected individuals.
In Delhi, three nodal hospitals have been designated for the management and treatment of mpox cases: Safdarjung Hospital, Lady Hardinge Medical College, and Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. These hospitals are preparing emergency wards specifically for mpox patients.
To ensure accurate and timely diagnosis, RT-PCR tests and nasal swabs will be conducted on patients suspected of having contracted mpox. This diagnostic approach is critical for early detection and prevention of the virus's spread.
Airports across the country have also been placed on high alert, with instructions to implement necessary precautions to prevent the potential entry and spread of mpox from international travelers. These measures include increased health screenings and monitoring at entry points.
